Guatemala: Art and Resistance

Study human rights and indigenous culture in this nine-day excursion to the Mayan highlands of Guatemala. Learn about Guatemalan weaving, painting, pottery, and architecture in the context of the country's tumultuous political and social history. Highlights include visits to markets and art museums, talks with political and cultural figures, and visits to Guatemala City, Chichicastenango, Santiago Atitlan, and the Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Dates of program: March 5-14, 2010 (nine days)
Fee: $2990 + CMC tuition (includes international airfare from Denver, and all transportation, lodging, meals, and other program-related expenses in-country)
Credits: Earn six credits in art and political science. Students must enroll in POS 215 (Current Political Issues and ART 208 (Culture Studies) for Spring 2010.
Class dates: TBA, most likely 3-4 friday mornings prior to travel and one meeting upon return.
